Death of a salesman time period2/13/2023 In 1944, Miller’s first play hits Broadway – The Man Who Had All the Luck. During this period of his life, Miller held many odd jobs in order to provide for his family. At the University of Michigan, Miller focused on writing – at his time there he wrote an abundance of plays which were able to be produced successfully on stage.Īfter college (circa 1940), he married Mary Slattery with whom he had two children. After many attempts, Miller finally got accepted into University of Michigan. During his adolescent years, Miller participated in sports until he suffered an injury which moved him to the sidelines permanently. After the economic crash in the early 1930s, Miller’s father’s business went under – forcing the family to move to Brooklyn. Things worked out well for the Miller family in the early years of Arthur Miller’s life. He was the son of Jewish immigrants – his father ran a tailoring business in New York. Through his life and writings, Miller became a national icon for the works he produced over the years.Īrthur Miller was born on Octoin New York City. His plays inspired, moved, and elicited emotions from audiences from all over. Over his writing career, he wrote his plays based on the common man and their struggles in life. One of the most influential playwrights of the Twentieth Century – Arthur Miller – wrote Death of A Salesman in 1949.
